Statistics showing the number of lynx that have been shot can give us an overview of the development of the number of lynx in Norway in the last 150 years. In the period 1846-80 an average of 127 lynx were shot per year. The number of lynx was drastically reduced in the period between 1890 and 1930.
Since 1960 there has been a gradual expansion of the lynx population in Norway until 1997. The last 10 years the number of registered family groups (female lynx with kittens) has varied from 44 to 92, and the annual harvest has exceeded 100 animals again during the last few years.
